Major People Issues in Mergers, Joint Ventures & Alliances in China
Presenter(s): Developed by Pricoa Relocation in association with GlobalAutoIndustry.com

Description:
Between 50% and 80% of mergers, acquisitions, alliances and joint ventures fail within the first five years*. Despite this fact, the number of international mergers continues to grow in China and around the world.

Most corporations focus their due diligence on the deal, the contract which translates into finances and, perhaps, strategy. However, it is widely acknowledged that the single most important reason for the failure of these ventures is culture - culture in terms of the different mindsets of the merging companies. So, the issue is really about people, but because it is often assumed that this is an area that cannot be managed well, it does not get enough up-front attention.

The following is an excerpt from a business strategy workshop developed by Pricoa Relocation in April 2004 that addresses one of the major sources of this cultural problem: people issues and the impact on return-on-investment that they produce.
